Tools: pencil, blade cutter, steel ruler, needle and scoring tool e.g. blunt needle. General: Cut on middle of solid marginal lines. Dot-dash lines: score and fold away from printed side. Dashed lines: prick through with needle to mark, score on unprinted side and fold towards printed side. Dash-double-dot lines: mark points of attachment. Arrows: mark separation lines or cuts into parts. Cross-hatched areas are to be cut out. Assembly: Parts 1-2a (Fig. 1 shows chassis from below). In 1 and 2 cut into them at arrows up to crosses. Score and fold, glue strip with numbers 4, 4a etc. to corresponding edge. Glue the narrow strips into the concavities and covering the ends (edge to edge). 1a and 2a are separated at arrows and close the convexities. (Short piece for more convex curve). Parts 3-3b - After folding join all closing seams to form a "box" and slide and glue in place on 1 and 2 taking note of "v" for front mark. Parts 4-4c - Form into rectangular rods, glue bluntly. Attach 4, 4a, 4b to 1 and 2 (don't attach 4c yet). Parts 5-5c - Form and glue all four into pipes. Pipe 5 is inserted through hole in 3b and flat end glued to 3a, other end with circles protrudes at the other side (seam towards straight side of 3b). Don't attach 5b-c yet. Parts 6-6b - Take note of front and back scores. Cut on line marked with crosses. Score line between main piece and adjacent black rectangles marked with 6a. Glue into a box noting Figs. 1 and 2. Form 6a into a three-sided box and glue to 6 open side corresponding to open side. Make pyramids of 6b's and glue in place. Glue 4c into step of 6a protruding equally on both sides. Glue engine in frame so narrow end attaches to pipe 5 and strip 4c rests on arms of frame. Parts 7-7b - Form middle strip to correspond to curve of folded sides and glue edges bluntly. Glue 7a in convexity. Fold two 7b to shape but don't attach any of these pieces yet. Parts 8-8e - Glue tab 8a underneath. Round into oval profile to conform to end pieces 8b, glue together and add end pieces (small mark on each 8b adjacent to seam). Form pipes from 2X8c, 8d and e. Glue in small openings of 8 except 8e which is glued on at angle. Glue exhaust assembly in holes at back of engine. (See Fig. 1) Parts 9-9a (on page 2) - Form into pipes, push through holes in chassis each side and glue to central rod. Now attach both 7b's so that markings (7) on engine and 7b's are on same plane. Slide 7 into place and glue all contact points. Parts 10-10b (for parts 10-22 UHU balsa cement is recommended by Wilhelmshaven - I used UHU general purpose for everything) - Glue 10 together into a flat box-shape see Fig. 3. Glue on the doubled discs 10a. Form 10b into ring and glue in opening. Parts 11-11b - Assemble both discs and strip into an oval case and glue to 10. Parts 12-12a - Curve 12 into a ring, glue together using small tab, then glue disc 12a on one side. Part 13 - form a pipe lengthwise and glue angled end with mark at seam to 12a. Parts 14-14a - Form open box from 14, pipe from 14a and glue as in Figs. 1 - 3. Parts 15-19a - As for 10-14a. Parts 20-21b - Glue 20/20a and 21/21a to form cases see Fig. 4. Glue 20b and 21b as pipes. Assemble pieces as in Fig. 4(top). The pipes rest on the protrusions of 20/21 and rest against 20a/21a at markings. Glue assemblies as per Fig. to chassis. Parts 22-22a - glue together 22 into long oval shape as per markings on 20/21, glue between these (20/21) with seam showing towards the concavity of the frame. Glue 22a to three scrap pieces until it is four layers thick, cut out and bend at marks. Don't attach yet. Now attach pipes 5a-5c as shown with angulation of join. Parts 23-23d - glue doubled ridges 23a to marks on plate 23. Form 23b in U-shapes and glue bluntly to 23. Fold 23c in half, glue double and cut out and attach doubled pieces. Attach 23 as per dashed line in Fig. 1. Parts 24-24e - (Fig. 6) four wheel units to be made. Separate strips 24/24a. Glue 24a under and parallel to 24 in mid-line with protruding end, so that a tab is left to glue it into a circular band with printed surface outside. Doubled discs 24b/c are glued in either side against edges of 24a. Cut circles out of centre of two doubled discs 24d. Form conical rings from 24e using cut off joining tabs, printing inside. Glue into holes of discs 24d. Then glue discs 24d to close the open circular sides of 24/24a with edges of "cones" 24e touching discs 24b/c. Parts 25-25e - curl and glue 25 into outer ring and 25a into inner ring. Join using 25b, gluing bluntly to inner and outer edge. Make an open-ended drum using 25c, d, e (ring 25d is glued inside outer ring 25c with one edge flush with inner edge of outer ring 25c - use protruding end to glue outer ring closed). Glue drum to circular marking of wheel-hub. Parts 26-26f - 26-26b as per 25-25b. Curl 25c into conical ring with printing outside. Close smaller opening with 26d. Likewise with 26e/f, then glue together and to wheel hub. To attach wheels see Fig. 1. Attach steering link 22a between brake drums. Parts 27-27f - double all parts on scrap card. Assemble and glue frame in alphabetical order as per Fig. 7, left. N.B. tops must all line up in an even plain. Part 27e must be cut in two along cross-marked line. Parts 28-28h - Cut in along line with cross-marks up to white triangles. Fold bottom plate to fit under frame - parts outside the cuts are folded sharply to confirm to ahape of 28a/b, inside cuts it arches up. Glue 28a/b bluntly in openings. 28c/d are curled into wheel arches with print inside and glued to unprinted side of 18 using tab codes(x to x, etc.). Fill gaps with 28e/f (outer edge to correspond with that of frame). Glue box 28g so that side with cut-out protrudes over edge. Glue 28h "v"=front (See Fig. 8, 9). Parts 29-29b - glue tabs(strips) under edges. Lower grey strip is folded over and glued to back. Curve to fit frame, don't attach to frame yet (see after Part 50). Parts 30-33b - form tapered frame for window 30 using strip 30a, ink inside, and glue narrow end to edges of doubled window. Same with 31-31a, 32-32a. Glue inside correct openings of side panel 29 (Fig. 10). Follow same procedure with 33. Parts 34-35a - glue tab strips underneath. Grey strip folded under and middle piece glued, ends curved but left till attached to frame. 34b is curved to fit inside opening and glued bluntly (Fig. 11). Double and attach 34c and d. Back window 35/35a as above. Parts 36-39a - three sections of 36/38 are curved vertically and cuts glued. Discs 36a/38a are doubled and glued as stop lights. Doubled windows 37/39 are curved, frames attached (37a/39a), and windows glued inside openings. Now attach to each side of 34 using gluing strips 34a, DON'T glue curved lower side grey strips until attached to frame later. Parts 40-40a - glue 40a underneath 40, slightly bend on middle line of 40, curve it to shape horiz. and vertically, glue slit closed. Parrts 41-41b - prepare as for 40 and join to 40. Parts 42-43 - curve both, glue slits bluntly and attach to 40/41. Part 44 - cut in for short distance up to fold lines at each arrow. Fold according to line patterns. (lower black strip folds up) FOLD BEFORE CUTTING OUT. USE CARE NOT TO BREAK. Parts 45-46a - prepare two windows as usual, note different lengths of frame edges. Glue in place. Parts 47-50a - Glue doubled 47a to doubled 47. Glue frame bluntly to edge of window, the steps fit at the back edges of the doubled part. Fit frame 48a to doubled pane 48. Same for 49-50a. Glue windows in place firmly. Glue forward folded lower edge of window frame 44 to upper edge of 40, 42, 43 and tabs to inner surface of doors. Attachment of panels to framework: Begin with sides, their straight rear edge (not glue strip edge) line up with rear cross-frame so that glue strip protrudes over the edge of the frame. The upper edge lines up with the top of the cross-frame with white flap folded over top. Rear piece is glued bluntly to frame and using glue strips to side pieces. In a similar way attach front, here make sure bottom lines up with and attaches to chassis. Parts 51-51c - these form linings for wheel arches. Parts 52-52c - Curl the bottom edge of 52 (over a needle e.g.), starting at the point, from the cut edge up to the marked line using red brackets as a guide to the desired profile. Curl the top edge of the two side extensions, but leave the middle flat where marked with a long red line next to the piece (again the red brackets indicate desired profile). Glue slits together, attach to front and door markings. Strips 52a/b are cut into at arrows, top and bottom edges curved as for 52, and attached under the windows starting with the straight pieces at front. Similarly for 52c at rear. Parts 53-53b - double and glue right, left and rear to strips 52, etc. Parts 54-54d - make needle holes at black dots in 54, join on reverse side with side-to-side pencil lines. Groove narrow side-strips and fold over. Glue doubled profile formers 54a-d to pencil lines on unprinted side. Parts 55-55c - Curve roof 55 in both directions (Fig. 10). Glue slits marked with red triangles closed with aid of tabs 55a-b, rest of slits glue closed bluntly. The sliding roof 55c is now cut out but not attached to white area yet.. Parts 56-56a - double windows 56, curve, glue behind openings in roof. Glue window frames 56a from outside. Now glue roof within folded-over strips, over profile formers 54a etc. to plate 54. Sliding roof 55c is curved at button decorated edges a bit more than the roof curvature, and then glued to the edges. Glue completed roof assembly to body framework. Parts 57 - curl ends slightly and glue as ventilator grille to black marks on sides (Fig. 10, 11). Parts 58-58e - triple-layer 58, using blank card, glue to back of 58a so that rim protrudes evenly. Curve both with 58a on outside to shape of rear of bus. Bend narrow rim over all round the perimeter and glue to edges. Double pieces 58b, c and d - glue to markings ( b on a, c and d on b). Two 58e glue to four-fold thickness using scrap, one to seven-fold thickness. The thicker one is glued in the middle, the other two to the sides as bumper brackets. Glue bumper/fender in place. Parts 59-59e - assemble 59-59c as for 58-58d (59e four-layered), glue to front of bus. Double number plate 59d and glue in centre. Parts 60-60a- (two) - glue slit in 60 closed, form ring using 60a and glue together with seams lined up. Glue headlights in place. Part 61 - fold rectangle double and glue, when dry cut out and attach wipers at angle shown in Fig. 10 to windscreen. Part 62 - double VW sign, cut out and glue in place. Parts 63 - four-fold thicken and cut out door handles, glue to front door markings. Parts 64-64b - 64 four-fold, 64a double. Roll 64b into cylinder and glue to 64 and glue as in Fig. 10 to side door. Parts 65-65b - as per 64-64b - to middle back engine-lid Fig. 11. Part 66 - separate at arrows, use cut-off pins to make hinges Fig.12. Two have pins left 18mm long as supports for mirrors Fig.10. The ends of hinges are glued into slits cut at markings on doors. Parts 67-67a - two - glue together in pairs back to back and attach as in Fig.10. Parts 68 - bend down middle line into ridges, glue ends together and glue to marks at bottom of sides of bus. The chassis and body can now be assemled (if desired with no glue so that they can be taken apart to demonstrate construction.) END.
